Comparison Kills

‘’The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.’’ – John 10:10 NLT

If there is one thing that the enemy loves doing, it is to make us doubt God’s plan for our lives.

When we form a deeper relationship with Christ, we start seeing ourselves through Gods eyes. We begin to realize how wonderfully we are made; God’s masterpiece, knitted and perfected inside our mother’s womb. Before we were even created God knew the plans He had for our lives. And although we may doubt it sometimes, we know that it can only be good plans!

But, the actual topic that I want to touch on is being content with what we have been given by God.

It is human to want more once you have received a blessing, but we need to be careful about desiring too much to feed our fleshly needs.

What happens when our desires turn into greed?

Too many times we look at the next person, or compare our journey with the next one. We see their ‘glory’, yet we do not know their story. It is normal to look at someone and think ‘wow, if I could only be like him or her, or do this or that like they do it’, but we need to be very careful that our desires do not turn into envy.

We should be so deeply rooted in Christ that we know exactly what our purpose is, so that we do not have to run a race not set out for us or try and take away someone else’s shine by trying to do exactly what they are doing.

It is very important for a believer to know and understand their purpose in life.

We are all uniquely placed on earth, all with a different purpose; and although we each have a different function, we all from part of the body of Christ.

We cannot live a life in competition with one another when we are all gifted differently.

Remain content with what you have, whether big or small, it is needed!

Stay focused on your own race and remain confident that what God has in store for you is beautiful.

Don’t kill yourself by being jealous or bitter. You only make yourself sick by wanting what the next person has.

Comparison distracts us from running a focused race. Comparison is the thief of joy.

It only leads to envy, and as Christians, we are set apart from the world – The bible says; ‘’Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.’’

We don’t live for people. – Philippians 2:3 ‘’Don’t act out of selfish ambition or be conceited. Instead, humbly think of others as being better than yourselves.’’

Galatians 6:4 ‘’Each of you must examine your own actions. Then you can be proud of your own accomplishments without comparing yourself to others.’’

Rather compare yourself to Christ, so you can be more like Him. Be content with what you have. Give God your all, and be grateful.

In the end comparison can do nothing for you.
